Brain candy

Slide1

I met my new best friends today. Linda Holmes, Stephen Thompson, Glen Weldon and Trey Graham of the NPR Culturetopia and Pop Culture Happy Hour had me grinning from ear to ear as I listened to their latest podcast, fighting the urge to laugh out loud. You know those people you meet (or in this case hear) and immediately want to be friends with? These are those people.

Since Gilmore Girls went off the air, there has been a void of witty, pop culture references in my life. Listening to the Pop Culture Happy Hour reminded me of Tuesday evenings with Lorelai, Rory and Google (ready to research an obscure reference at a moment's notice). Sure, the NPR podcast is a little bit bourgeois, but the hosts don't take themselves too seriously. They spent at least 15 minutes of the latest episode mocking themselves almost as much as the topic at hand.

It's official. I'm a nerdy fangirl.

Thankful

Fifty-five days ago I gave up Diet Coke, and while it wasn't part of some Lenten fast, I know it has been through my faith alone that it has actually been easy. The skeptics, agnostics and atheists among you scoff. While the addiction was not to alcohol or drugs, it was still an addiction to be reckoned with. I talked of my suppliers or dealers, most of whom knew me by name. Mood swings were my reality without my regular fix, quick to anger without my bottle in hand. Like many other good addicts, I would forsake food and other necessities, if needed, in order to get my fix.

Anyway, I mention this on Easter because not only has it been 55 days (hell yeah!) but also because I am so very thankful. I am thankful for my faith and a God that has shown us the very meaning of sacrifice. What better day than this day to talk about how thankful I am that He makes everything I do bearable...better.

Sundays

Life's not about throwing rocks. It's about trying to find the cool stuff on the inside. Dig deeper. That's where all the coolest stuff is hidden.

edit: We were trying to check out the inside of the quartz.

Month in review

There have been some big (well...at least to me) changes happening since March 1. Lots of things to say but too tired to begin just yet. So...here are some snapshots snagged with my phone over the course of the last month (real pictures happened, too, but I haven't been able to upload them yet). As much as I'm not pro-cell phone photos, these get the job done when in a hurry. :-)
